“Habit is Heaven’s own redress: it takes the place of happiness…”
– Alexander Pushkin
What are your daily habits? How do they affect your life?
I rarely thought about my habits and how they affect my life until I came across James Clear’s ‘Atomic Habits’.
This book made me evaluate my key habits and routines and see how they serve (or don’t) me – what an eye opener!
I am now on a mission to minimise any habits that don’t serve me well and establish the ones that will make positive differences in my life (and I must stick to this plan!)
I have stopped creating to-do lists and have instead started planning my daily routines the night before, with a big emphasis on my morning routine.
I’ve realised that having a well-established morning routine helps me with the right mindset for the day and increases my productivity.
I get up at 06.00 and drink a glass of warm water.
I do some breathing exercises and meditate for two minutes (I’m planning to increase it gradually), so I am in the right mindset for the new day.
I now time block everything that needs doing during the day.
I choose to work on one important task in the morning when I am more productive.
It can be copywriting, developing courses, planning individual sessions.
I usually start working with clients around ten o’clock.
In the afternoon I ensure that I complete all my home-related commitments, so that I can focus on the following day’s priorities and do effective time blocking.
I always try to reschedule my time blocks for later if things do not work out (i.e. life gets in the way).
I try not to let things pile up! It’s still work in progress.
I am also working on protecting my time by saying ‘no’ whenever necessary (not easy though).
I have realised that by creating and maintaining these new habits I have stopped procrastinating and also stopped feeling down about it!
Of course, things don’t always go the way I would like them to…
but I feel positive about my new habits, and I have now developed the ability to:
-Analyse my habits and evaluate them (Are they serving me well or not?)
-Find ways of creating and establishing useful habits (How is this going to help me at this stage of my life? What changes do I need to make to see positive results?)
-Implement and maintain routines that serve me well.
I am enjoying the newly acquired knowledge, and I am seeing positive changes.
I help my clients build successful habits and routines and minimise the ones that are not serving them well.
We’re all on a lifelong journey, moving through different phases.
Our positive habits help us become more successful in various areas of our lives and it only takes a few small steps in the right direction for us to start noticing the benefits…
